Putty or Maitland parking full — Plan B
A full Putty Beach lot or Maitland Bay trailhead is a Plan B moment — not a reason to invent a verge, wait in heat, then stack the Coastal Walk anyway.

Best for: Anyone arriving to a full Bouddi car park on a fine weekend
Unofficial guide — always verify track conditions, closures, fees and safety with NSW National Parks. Place photos are Wikimedia Commons / CC where credited — not official NPWS imagery and not live conditions.
Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park entry fees and NSW National Parks camping bookings are never affiliated.

Decision first: if Putty Beach day-use or the Maitland Bay Information Centre trailhead is full, do not add a Coastal Walk one-way “to make the wait worth it.” Execute Plan B: Mount Bouddi / Dingeldei picnic, a later return, or a Killcare coffee and retry. A calm picnic still counts as Bouddi.
This park does not publish a Prom-style vehicle cap on this site — lots still fill. Vehicle day fees in fee areas are a separate official fact to verify. Not walked; planning from NSW National Parks access notes and published trailhead behaviour. Official signs beat this article.
If Putty Beach parking is full

Leave the loop. Mount Bouddi / Dingeldei picnic is Plan B — tables, shorter walks, no verge invention. Do not park on vegetation or block emergency access. Day visitors must not occupy booked campground sites.
Failure mode: circling until someone “just nips in.” That is how rangers and other visitors get angry, and how days get wrecked before a walk starts.
If Maitland Bay trailhead is full

Do not invent Scenic Road shoulders. Switch to Putty (if space) or Mount Bouddi. The icon beach is walk-in — a full lot does not create a new car park at the sand.
Pairing ban: do not drive to Box Head because Maitland failed and then treat unfenced lips as a consolation prize. That is a new product, not Plan B.
What not to invent
Do not invent a walk-up camp site as day parking. Do not invent a 11am Sydney leave that still “beats the Sunday crush.” Read NPWS alerts the morning you drive. On-site signs win.
FAQ
Tap a question to expand the answer.
Does my Putty camping booking guarantee day-use parking for friends?
No. Campground sites and day-use lots are different jobs. Extra cars are not a loophole. Arrive early or use Plan B picnic nodes.
Is Terrigal a good Plan B for parking?
Terrigal is a gateway town with food and beds — not a shortcut into a full Putty lot. Sleep there and retry early, or picnic at Mount Bouddi instead of inventing a verge.
