Full day: Bouddi Coastal Walk (one-way)
Best for: Fit walkers with a car shuffle or pick-up plan
Guide updated · verify NSW National Parks the morning you go
Putty Beach to MacMasters Beach (or reverse) with water discipline, section awareness and a real exit plan. Not a first-visit impulse.

The flagship day. You need either two cars, a willing pick-up, or a pre-booked transfer mindset — not hope.
Section the walk mentally even if you plan the full distance: Putty–Maitland, Maitland–Little, Little–MacMasters [VERIFY distances]. Any section can become the whole day if weather or energy fails.
From Sydney this is a long calendar day once you add drive time and food. Early start is not optional in summer heat.
Verify track status and fire danger the morning you go. This independent guide does not publish live closures.
Timeline
Times are planning anchors, not a race clock. Protect the reverse drive home.
Night before
Logistics first
Confirm who ends where. Share live location plans. Pack 2 L water minimum per person in heat, electrolytes optional, blister kit, wind layer, offline maps, headlamp for winter daylight mistakes. Check NPWS alerts.
Pre-dawn / early
Car shuffle setup
If using two cars: leave one at the finish first, then drive to the start. Single car: commit to a long out-and-back section instead of gambling on hitching.
Start
Trailhead and entry
Start at Putty or MacMasters as planned. Pay entry if required. Photo the track sign. Set a turnaround/abort rule before pride takes over.
Mid walk
Resupply decisions at beaches
At Maitland Bay or Little Beach, reassess. Adding a long swim is fine only if the remaining distance and climb still fit daylight and water. Heat + empty bottles = demote the plan.
Finish
Exit and food
Finish at the planned end, change shoes, eat in MacMasters / Killcare / Terrigal. Do not “just add Box Head” after a full one-way.

Parking & access tips
- Car shuffle: leave one car at the finish first.
- Single car: walk a long out-and-back section instead of hoping for a hitch.
- Pay entry at both ends if fee areas apply — verify current rules.
- Hide valuables; trailheads get busy on fine weekends.
Skip if short on time / energy
- Unplanned full one-way with one car
- Heavy pack “training” in peak heat
- Box Head add-on after a complete one-way
- Late start in summer without water margin
Extra tips
Who this plan is for
- Fit walkers with prior day-walk experience
- Groups with a real car shuffle or pick-up
- People who can demote to a section without ego
Decision gates
- If NPWS shows closures: shrink to a verified open section
- If anyone is dehydrated mid-walk: turn around or shorten — do not “push through” cliffs
- If weather turns: headland exposure is not optional reading
What success looks like
- Finished section or full one-way with daylight remaining
- Water plan held
- No cliff-edge photo risks
- Notes for next time (earlier start, different direction, overnight base)

- Quick-dry towelUseful after Putty Beach or Maitland Bay swims when you still have a climb out
