Where you start

Signed Gerrin Point lookout access

Use signed parking and formed paths to the lookout. Stay behind any barriers — unfenced edges are not optional photo platforms. Low commitment does not mean zero risk.

How to get there

  1. Access via The Scenic Road / Bouddi lookout signs as published by NPWS.
  2. Confirm parking and any temporary barriers on the day.
  3. Combine with other short stops rather than rushing for one photo in heavy traffic.
  4. Pay vehicle entry where fee areas apply for your access point [VERIFY].
  5. If the lookout pull-off is full, do not invent cliff-edge parking — move to Putty or Mount Bouddi Plan B.

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Arrive, take the view, supervise children near edges.
  2. Stay behind barriers — unfenced cliff lips are not optional photo platforms.
  3. Optional: continue on a short Coastal Walk segment only if planned and water remains.
  4. Leave with a traffic buffer on busy weekends.
  5. In whale season, scan patiently rather than leaning further over the edge for one breach.

Who this lookout is for

Choose Gerrin Point when you want ocean horizon time, whale-season scanning or a short add-on without a full Coastal Walk commitment. It suits mixed groups, short time windows and “one more view” after beach logistics.

It is not a substitute for Maitland Bay if the group wanted the icon beach — different job, both valid.

If anyone treats barriers as optional, demote the stop. Views are not worth a fall.

Lookout role in a Bouddi day

Gerrin Point is a panorama stop. Use it between beach and village food, or as a low-energy Plan B when heat kills longer walks.

It pairs well with Putty Beach day-use and short Coastal Walk samples — not with stacking every hard headland the same afternoon.

Confirm signed access and any temporary barriers on the day; this guide does not publish live closures.

Edges, wind and kids

Stay behind barriers. Unfenced lips are not photo platforms. Wind can make balance harder than the car park suggests.

Supervise children continuously — lookouts concentrate attention on the horizon, not on little feet.

Automatic reverse: high wind, fog that hides edges, or a group member who will not stay back.

Pairing ideas

Classic easy day: Putty Beach + Gerrin Point + Killcare / MacMasters food. Whale season: patient scanning with binoculars, then a warm drink.

Do not invent a full Coastal Walk one-way just because the lookout felt easy — different effort class.

Extra tips

  • Strong add-on between beach time and lunch in Killcare / MacMasters.
  • Whale-season scanning from headlands rewards patience and binoculars (roughly June–November — verify).
  • Low commitment does not mean zero risk — wind and edges still apply.
  • Morning light often cleaner for ocean colour; afternoon can be hazy but still beautiful.
  • Pair with Putty Beach for a complete easy day when Maitland’s climb is too much.
